Early Life
Annamalai Kuppusamy was born on June 4, 1984, in Thottampatti village in the Karur district of Tamil Nadu.
He belongs to the Kongu Vellalar Gounder community, a prominent land-owning and politically influential community in western Tamil Nadu.
He was born to Kuppusamy and Parameshwari and grew up in a rural farming environment that gave him a direct understanding of the challenges of agricultural life, an experience that later informed his political emphasis on farmer welfare and rural development.
Education
Annamalai completed his secondary education and then gained admission to PSG College of Technology in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, one of India’s leading private engineering institutions, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering in 2007.

Career
IPS Career in Karnataka (2011–2019)
Annamalai served in the Karnataka State Police for eight years across a range of critical postings.
He served as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) during his probationary years, then as Superintendent of Police in Udupi and Chikkamagaluru districts, before being posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for South Bengaluru, one of the most demanding and high-profile policing assignments in Karnataka.
It was during his tenure in Bengaluru South that he earned the nickname “Singham”, after the Bollywood film’s righteous police officer protagonist, for his reputation for fearless, integrity-driven law enforcement. In August 2013, he was honoured with the Vice President’s Award for Exemplary Leadership.

Personal Life
K. Annamalai married Akhila Swaminathan in a traditional South Indian ceremony in 2013. The couple have two children. He is known for an active and disciplined lifestyle, practising yoga daily, running, and maintaining an organic farm. He is a practicing Hindu.
