Vivienne Patricia Scialfa was born on July 29, 1953, in Deal, New Jersey, a small shore community on the Jersey Shore. She was the middle child of Patricia (née Morris) Scialfa who hails from Belfast, Northern Ireland, and is of Irish ancestry and Joseph Scialfa, who was of Sicilian descent. Her voice, guitar work, and stage presence added a crucial feminine dimension to the E Street Band’s sound and visual identity.
